Stevenson was held at the home on East Main street, Thursday afternoon at 2:30. The services were impressively simple, consisting of the reading of the 91st Psalm, and a prayer by Rev. R. E. Meader, which he followed by the reading of two poems, “O Love That Will Not Let Me Go” by George Mathewson, and “Life” by Henry Van Dyke. The short service was completed by the singing of “Leave It With Him” by Mrs. Benjamin Vosper, beautifully sung with the expression of perfect faith. The bearers were relatives: Charles, Arthur and Frank T. Stevenson of Ionia and Morris Stevenson of Stanton. The burial was in Highland Park, the members of the William H. Borden post, G.A.R. acting as escort and giving their ritual service at the grave with solemn impressiveness, Mr. Meader concluded the grave service with a prayer. Many flowers expressed the sympathy of friends, among them being a tribute from the officers of the Michigan Soldier’s Home.
