Stevenson, 80, long-time merchant, will be held Tuesday afternoon. He died late Saturday night at the Ionia County Memorial hospital. For 32 years he was connected with the F. W. Stevenson Store in Ionia, most of the time as sole owner and proprietor. He was born August 8, 1875 in the family home at 138 East Washington street, where he continued to live until the time of his death. He was the son of Frank W. and Elvira L. Stevenson. In 1894 he became associated with his father, F. W. Stevenson, it the store business, and following his death in 1909 became sole owner. At various times he operated the store with his late brother, A. L. Stevenson. In 1926 he retired from active participation in the business and sold it to A. L. and R. N. Stevenson. On August 27, 1901 he was married to Martha Rich, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hampton A. Rich. She died in 1941. He was a member of the First Methodist church, a member of its official body and finance committee, and also served on the building committee. He is survived by one son, Hampton Rich Stevenson, of Huntington Woods, near Detroit. His body will be at the Stone-Kauffman funeral home until Tuesday noon when it will be taken to the First Methodist church. Services will be Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 with the Rev. Heath Goodwin officiating. Burial will be in Highland Park cemetery.
