The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Saturday, August 6, 1955


Word was received in Ionia late Friday of the death of Mrs. Arthur L. 
Stevenson, 90, mother of Rolland N. Stevenson, former Iona business man and 
store owner.  Mrs. Stevenson, a former Ionia resident, had been ill for the 
past two years.  She was born at Clarksville, January 19, 1865, the daughter of 
Edwin and Adelia Nash.  She attended schools in Clarksville and Detroit.

In 1923 the family returned to Ionia when Mr. Stevenson became associated with 
the Stevenson department store.  Following Mr. Stevenson’s death in 1925, Mrs. 
Stevenson resided for a time with her son Rolland N. Stevenson of Ionia.  More 
recently she had made her home with her daughters Mrs. Wilbur D. Barnard of St. 
Crois Falls, Wis., and Mrs. J. Lawrence Dopp of Eveleth, Minn.

Mrs. Stevenson was an active member of the Ionia First Presbyterian church and 
has always retained her membership.  Also while in Ionia Mrs. Stevenson was a 
member of the Women’s Literary club.

She is survived by a son Rolland N. Stevenson of Ionia and daughters, Mrs. Ruth 
Barnard and Mrs. Esther Dopp and a daughter-in-law Mrs. Raymond P. Stevenson of 
Milwaukee, Wis.  Also surviving are five grandchildren and six great-
grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 2:30 p.m. from the Myers funeral home 
in Ionia.  The Rev. George Rentschler, pastor of the Ionia Presbyterian church 
will officiate.  Burial will be at Highland Park Cemetery east of Ionia.
