Daniels was born Sept. 1, 1844, in Scipio, Cayuga county New York, and departed this life May 14, 1924, near Lake Odessa, Mich., at the age of 79 years, 8 mos., and 14 days. At the age of nine years she moved with her parents to Lowell, Mich., and from there to Ionia county near the city of Ionia where she was united in marriage to Andrew Charles Steward, Oct. 29, 1863, when she went with her husband to his home in Odessa township where they lived, until they moved to their present home where they have lived for the past 32 years. To this union were born four children, Nathan of Bismark, Mertie A. at home, and Millie M., of Cressy, Mich., one dying in infancy. She leaves to mourn her departure besides her children, an aged invalid husband, 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, besides two others gone before, waiting for grandma; also four sisters, Mrs. Jane Miller, and Mrs. William Aldrich of Grand Rapids, Mrs. Mary Drake of Sunfield, Mrs. Francis Seyon of Barryton beside a host of other relatives and friends. One sister and two brothers having preceded her to the other world. Early in their married life they learned to love their Savior, uniting with the Baptist church in Sebewa then transferring to Lake Odessa where she remained a faithful follower of her Lord and Master until death claimed her. Her last words were a prayer for her loved ones. She was a kind neighbor, a very devoted, true Christian wife and mother. Her health has been impaired for a number of years, but Mertie’s constant, patient, willing and loving care did much to relieve her suffering and also that of her invalid father who has had her ever watchful care for the past number of years. The funeral was held at the home, Friday at eleven o’clock, Rev. S. H. Cone of the M. E. Church in Vermontville gave a splendid talk from the text, Psalms, 116-15. The singing was by Mrs. S. H. Cope, “When Mother Prayed” and “In The New Jerusalem”, which was one of her favorites. Her grandsons acted as pallbearers, they were Albert Evert Steward and Clayton and Andrew Aldrich. Burial in Lake Side Cemetery. File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/mi/ionia/obits/s/steward2080nob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.net/mifiles/ File size: 2.7 Kb
