Hastings Reminder - March 2, 2013

LAKE ODESSA, MI-Merlin “George” Steward, age 67, of Lake Odessa, passed away 
peacefully February 27, 2013 at Blodgett Hospital.

He was born in Vermontville Township to M. Voight and Bertie (Bursley) Steward.

He was a 1966 graduate of Charlotte High School. In 1969, he joined the United 
States Navy and served on the USS Forrestal in the Mediterranean.

George worked at General Motors for 33 years. He was a member of the 
Vermontville and Clarksville Lions Clubs and VFW Post 4461. George loved people 
and was always ready to lend a helping hand. 

Survivors include wife, Noreen Lackey whom he married in 1993; children, Brian 
(Raz) Steward of Danvers, IL and Heather England of Lake Odessa; grandchildren, 
Brooke and Britny England of Lake Odessa, Addie and Emme Steward of Danvers, 
IL; siblings, Dean (Karen) Steward of Charlotte, Betty (Roger) Farkas of 
Bellevue, Marvin (Karen) Steward of Lansing and Claudia (Chuck) Kikendall of 
Ludington; mother-in-law, Phyllis Lackey of Ionia; brother-in-law, David Lackey 
of Lake Odessa as well as many  nieces and nephews.

Preceding Gorge in death were his parents; former wife, Connie Graham; father-
in-law, Lawrence Lackey.

Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Sunday, March 3 at the Koops 
Funeral Home, 935 Fourth Avenue, Lake Odessa, MI, 48849 from 4 to 7 p.m.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 4, 2013 at the 
Lakewood United Methodist Church, 10265 East Brown Road, Lake Odessa.

Memorial contributions in George’s name may be made to the VFW Post 4461.
