Lake Odessa Wave, 22 May 1947

Miss Mertie Steward, esteemed Lake Odessa woman, passed away at her home
Thursday morning, May 15, 1947, after an extended illness at the age of 77. 
Funeral services were held at the United Brethren church Saturday, May 17, 1947,
at 2 p.m. with the Rev. E.A. Shull officiating.  Burial was in the family lot at
the Lakeside cemetery.

Miss Steward was born November 1, 1869, in Odessa township, the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. A.C. Steward, deceased.  The greater part of her life was spent caring
for others.  She was a devout Christian, a member of the Baptist church, also a
charter member of the O.E.S in Lake Odessa.  Her kindly disposition and love of
humanity endeared her to a large circle of friends by whom she will be greatly
missed.

She was lovingly cared for by her sister Mrs. S.A. Aldrich during her illness.

Surviving are her sister Mrs. S.A. Aldrich, Mrs. Jennie Steward, 12 nieces and
nephews and several cousins.
