She was born on May 8, 1916 and lived in the Sunfield/Lake Odessa area all of her 91 years. She was a member of the Sunfield United Brethren Church and served in many capacities: Sunday school teacher, Women's Missionary Fellowship member and choir member. She had become a follower of Jesus at an early age and believed that God is with us whatever we face in life. Dorothy's parents preceded her in death: George Ashton Coppess and Mae Emily (Gallup) Coppess. Her husband of 59 years, O. Dale Steward passed away on April 7, 1994. Two of their five children have also passed away; Wendal B. Steward on Dec. 8, 2000 and Jeffery D. Steward on June 25, 2002. Two grandsons have also passed away; Lucas T. Steward on Sept. 19, 1998 and Kirk Lee Steward Aug. 25, 2007. Dorothy was the last living of her six siblings; Lucy L. Coppess, John E. Coppess, Adelaide K. (Coppess) Dalton, George M. Coppess, Charles S. Coppess and Ruth E. Coppess. During her life, Dorothy was an energetic, fun-loving people person who had many friends and acquaintances. She also had a myriad of interests that kept her busy and on the go. Camping, quilting, crocheting, crafts, family and community history, writing stories and poetry, antiques, animals, nature and games. Dorothy loved to cook, she worked in several area restaurants and she was well known for her delicious baked goods. She also worked for Lakewood Public Schools Hot Lunch program for several years. Dorothy was an avid bowler and also loved to watch her children and grandchildren participate in sports activities. She leaves behind many friends and relatives who will miss her greatly: her son Larry (Marilee) Steward of Sunfield, son Bill L. Steward and Faye Foltz of Mulliken, daughter Nancy Jo (Warren) Terry of Lawton, Mich, daughter-in-law Shelley (Jeff) Steward of Woodland, a special sister-in-law Laura Steward of Lake Odessa; her loving and beloved grandchildren, Kevin (Tricia) Steward, Karin (Ronnie) Raymond, John D. Steward, Rebecca (Darin) White, David (Mary) Terry, Meredith (Dan) Hutton, Matthew (Jennifer) Steward, and Gabriel (Melissa) Steward; 17 great-grandchildren, Jolena, Dylan, Ashleigh, Diedra, Angelica, David, Toni, Andrew, Ryan, Logan, Eric, Sophia, Georgia, Kennedy, Taylor, and Whitney and three great-great-grandchildren, Kendyl Renee, Cameron Brockman and Lola Marie. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday Sept. 18, 2007 at the Sunfield United Brethren Church. The family will receive their friends on Monday 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sunfield United Brethren Church.
