Stewart, 76, of Louisville, KY died peacefully on Thursday, October 12, 2006 at the Hospice Unit of Baptist Hospital Northeast. Born October 10, 1930 in Ionia, he was the son of the late Paul and Brite Stewart. A learned scholar, Dr. Stewart obtained his BS from Culver-Stockton College in Missouri; Master of Divinity, Drake University; MA, Harvard University; PhD, Northwestern University. Dwight was a professor of philosophy and religion at Culver-Stockton College, Boston University and Union College. He became Dean of Faculty at Union College then academic dean at Midway College. An ordained minister of the Disciples of Christ, Dr. Stewart served as minister at Fairview Christian Church, Louisville, KY, then as interim minister at First Christian Church in Jeffersonville, IN, from which he ultimately retired. He is survived by his wife, Jane Howerton Stewart, of Louisville and brother Paul of Terre Haute, IN. Survivors include children and their spouses: Carol Reed (Rick) of London, KY, Joe Stewart (Kari) of Louisville, and Paul Stewart (Jane) of Cincinnati, Ohio, and seven grandchildren: Chelsea and Chloe Reed of London, Hunter and Cole Stewart of Louisville, and Hannah, Cameron and Sean Stewart of Cincinnati. Visitation will be 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, October 21, 2006 at Fairview Christian Church in Louisville. A memorial service will beheld at 3 p.m. on Sunday, October 22, at First Christian Church in Jeffersonville, IN.
