He was a mechanic and worked at different lines. He built the home in which the family lived for twenty years in this village, the house just of the G A R hall, while many of the sidewalks in the village today bear his name. He was a member of the Congregational Church, a deputy sheriff under Sheriff Jordan, a constable and was connected with the Maccabees. Mr. Stine died suddenly Wednesday, November 28, while helping unload alfalfa seed on his farm near Rapids City. The body was accompanied by his wife and son Alton to Portland and from there to Lake Odessa where burial took place last Thursday. OBITUARY DaDvid Stine was born in Ashland county, Ohio, February 28, 1852, and died at Rapids City, South Dakota, November 28, 1923, aged 71 years and 9 months. He was one of nine children only two surviving him. He came to Michigan in his early boyhood and settled with his parents in Eaton county near Charlotte. He was married December 24, 1871, to Miss Almira Dibble of Hastings. to this union were born five children; Maud, Ernest L. Ozora, Alton and an infant child, all but Ozora and Alton have passed on before him to their eternal home. In 1887 they came to Lake Odessa when the town was first started and where the children received their schooling. He built the home in which they lived, was identified with the growth of the village until he moved to Dakota in 1907, where he lived three years in Beadle county. In 1911 he moved to Pennington county, but in 1920 sold out and went to Huron. After this Mr. Stine came to Michigan and other points visiting relatives and friends. On November 28, while helping his man on the farm south of Rapids City, here marked that he felt sleepy and said he would lie down and would soon be all right. He never awakened, dying of heart trouble as he lay asleep. He leaves a devoted wife, a daughter, Mrs. Ozora Bennett of Portland, a son Alton L. Stine, deputy collector of customs of Rapids city, South Dakota, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mr. Stine was a faithful member of the congregational church while living in Lake Odessa, but joined the Methodist church in Dakota. He had been a member of the Maccabees for a number of years and was a member of the Elks. The funeral was held at the Congregational Church last Thursday, Rev. Bancroft of Portland preaching and the music was by Wm. Gilson, Mrs.O.C.Russ, Ilo Lucas and Thomas Johnson. Burial was in Lake Side cemetery.
