Ionia Sentinel - Thursday, Aug. 22, 1889

Miss Mary A. Stiven died at about 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon at her home in 
this city.

She had returned a few weeks ago from Grand Rapids where she was head nurse at 
the U.B.A. Home, and was then suffering with pneumonia. Her health slowly 
improved and for some time recovery was confidently hoped for. For several days 
her condition has been critical, but again she appeared to improve and hopes 
were strengthened to such a degree that her sister, Mrs. Wm. Templeton, returned 
to her home at Roseville yesterday morning.

Miss Stiven was 31 years of age yesterday. She was born in Detroit but most of 
her life as been passed here, where her many sterling qualities were highly 
appreciated. Her father, peter B. Stiven, died when she was an infant. Her 
mother, now Mrs. A. Goodall, and her brother, Fred A. Stiven, will have the 
sympathy of a large circle of friends.

The funeral will be held at 3 o'clock tomorrow afternoon
