Ionia Sentinel Standard-Tues. Jan. 24, 1933

CHARLES E. STODDARD
There was a large number of persons attending the funeral services for Charles E. 
Stoddard, conducted at the home, 647 North Jackson street, Monday afternoon by Dr.
Paul L. Stewart. Several of them came from Grand Rapids, the former home of Mr. Stoddard,
and many more of the friends from there met the funeral party from Ionia at the Woodlawn
cemetery, Grand Rapids, where the interment took place.

Mr. Stoddard was formerly of Grand Rapids, but had been a resident of Ionia for 10
years, and during this time had made many friends either as a member of the Ionia board of
education or as a member of the grocery firm of Stoddard & Buxton. He died Saturday,
following a long illness.

Dr. Paul I. Stewart summed up the character of the man when he said, "He is going to
be missed by those who enjoyed his friendship greatly. He was fond of children and
especially proud of his own family. He gave several years of valuable service to the schools of
Ionia as a member of the school board."

The bearers were John Adgate, Dewey  Beach, Paul Schipper, William Allen, John
Letts, and F. Lane.

Those from out of town to attend the rites at the home were: Mr and Mrs. H. C.
Solomon, Mr and Mrs Rollin Stoddard and children, Mrs Eilen McCready and daughter Dorothy, Mr
and Mrs Delbert Buxton and Mr and Mrs Roy VanAllen, Mr and Mrs Peter Hartsveldt, Mr
and Mrs Geist, Theodore Platte, of Grand Rapids; Mr and Mrs John Goodell, Dutton; Mr and
Mrs J. Norton, Sparta; Mr and Mrs Mark Riche, Middleville; Mr and Mrs John Adgate,
Florence Lane, Saranac.
