She was born August 26, 1912 to Roy and Louise Alspaugh in Anamosa, Iowa. She graduated from Anamosa High School in 1930, and attended Nurses training at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. On August 6, 1933 she married Truman Stone of Ionia, in Anamosa, Iowa. He died in 1985, they have been married 52 years. They moved to Ionia in 1942 from Monroe, Wis.; lived in Ionia until 1979 when they moved to Florida. Edna returned to Ionia in 1996. She had been a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Women’s Literacy Club (a past president), and the Ionia Country Club. Survivors are: daughter Betty (Francis) Stout of Ionia, son Bill of Florida; eight grandchildren: Denise (Tim) McDonough of Beaver Island, Cathy (Steve) O’Mara of Ionia, Karen (Mark) Quinn of Naperville, IL, Linda Stout of Hubbardston, Diane (John) Wylie of Fenton, Bill (Beverly) Stone of Highland Village, Texas, Mike (Elizabeth) Stone of Grand Blanc, Susan (Dave) Cook of Jackson, 18 great grandchildren; Lindsay, Brad, and Drew McDonough; Alex and Riley O’Mara; Lauren and Matthew Quinn; Megan (Bryan) LaRoux and Justin Phillips; Caitlin and Erin Wiley; Emily and Sarah Stone; Libby and Katie Stone; Jim, Amanda and Jacob Cook. Great-great granddaughters Savannah and Makayla LaRoux. She is also survived by a sister-in-law Mildred Cloud of Ionia, four nephews and one niece. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother, Col. Ralph Alspaugh. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 15, 2005 at Lake Funeral Home in Ionia. The family will receive friends and relatives one hour prior to service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers a memorial donation can be made in Edna’s name to the Arthritis foundation.
