Stone, who has been in failing health for the past year and a half, died on Thursday afternoon at 5, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Eugene Knapp, near Muir. Mr. Stone was born in Livonia, N.Y., Sept. 10, 1838, and came with the family of his father, Darius Stone, to Ionia county in 1846, being then eight years old. The family located in Ionia township, near Muir, the farm being long the family homestead. There were seven children in the family, of whom only one now survives—Mrs. Geo. J. Hayes of Muir. Silas Stone was married to Miss Lorana Beverly of Jackson county July 3, 1859, who survives, with two children, Mrs. Knapp, and Orin Stone, of the firm of Winchell & Stone, this city. He remained on the farm until 21 years ago when he moved into city where he has since resided. He was a man of highest type of character, and was universally respected and esteemed. He was an early member of the Disciple church at Muir, the membership being transferred here on change of residence. Funeral service at the family home, 625 E. Main, Sunday afternoon, 3 o’clock, conducted by Rev. G. Webster Moore. Interment, Highland Park. Subsequent Publication, dated unknown: The funeral service for Silas N. Stone, at the home on Sunday afternoon, was largely attended by relatives and old-time neighbors in North Plains and Ronald. Mr. and Mrs. Cassius Perrine of St. Louis, Mich., were the only ones present from out of the county. The service was by Rev. G. Webster Moore, who took occasion in his remarks to pay a deserved tribute to the high character of Mr. Stone. There was no music. The bearers were three nephews—Darius Stone, Burt Stone and Judson Stone; and three grandsons—Harry Knapp, Allen Knapp and Herman Hoople.
