He had died of heart disease and his death discovered by Lloyd Brock. Joe was born in Westphalia 65 years ago. He had resided in Collins and Portland and lived for a time at the Ionia county farm, but returned to Portland to make the little building in which he died his home. He studied for a time when a young man for the priesthood, but never finished his course. Four sisters, Mrs. Catherine Schotter, of Lansing; Mrs. Mary Pfeiffer, of Carson City; Mrs. Elizabeth Miller, of Westphalia; three brothers, William and Edward, of Westphalia, and Peter, of Carson City, survive.
