Story aged 91 of Lowell, passed away Tuesday, November 7, 1995. He was born in Lowell Township at the home of an aunt. His parents were Ralph and Kathryn Oberly Story. He was preceded in death by a brother Ware and is survived by a sister Freida Pitsch of Saranac. Story grew up in Boston Township, Ionia County. He attended the Sweet School through the fourth grade and the South Bell School fifth through eighth grades. He attended high school in Lowell, graduating in the class of 1922. After high school, he worked at the Chevrolet gear plant in Detroit for ix months, and later for the Ypsilanti Reed Furniture Company in Ionia. He was employed at the Saranac Creamery from 1928 to November 1932 at which time he accepted the position of agent for the Standard Oil Company in Lowell. He was with Standard until establishing his own oil company in partnership with Claude Thorne, in Lowell, in 1946. He was with the Story & Thorne firm until his retirement. He was married October 9, 1926 to Amy Lucille Stebbins. They lived in Saranac until moving to Lowell in 1932. They had a son, Gerald Ralph, who survived only three days. A son, Royce was born in 1930; Ronald was born in 1932; Sharon was born in 1941. He is survived by 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Amy Lucille Story died June 4, 1971. George married Lucille Boelens on December 31, 1972. She survives him. He joined the Lowell Masonic Lodge and the Lowell Rotary Club in 1936. He was president of the Lowell Rotary Club in the 1940's and was Master of the Lowell Masonic Lodge twice. He was a member of the DeWitt Clinton Consistory, Saladin Shrine. He was president of the Lowell Board of Trade in 1945. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Home of Hope, 1488 E. Beltline S.E., Grand Rapids, MI 49508. Arrangements by Roth-Gerst of Lowell.
