Stout, 71, of 3228 East David Highway, Ionia died Sunday evening at Ionia County Memorial Hospital. She was born August 22, 1912, in Ionia Township, the daughter of Jacob and Mary Theo Goodwin Moore. She was married on August 26, 1933 to Sterry Stout. They made their home on their farm on David Highway in Orange township. He preceded her in death in January 1963. A member of the LeValley United Methodist Church and of Church Women United, she served as treasurer of the latter and also was assistant superintendent of the Sunday School at the church. She was formerly employed by the Ionia county intermediate School District and had served as a special education teacher at Twin rivers School. For 27 years she was a 4-H leader and she was a knitting key leader for many years. In 1983 she was named as the Ionia Free Fair Homemaker of the Years. She was a graduate of Eastern Michigan University. Surviving are one son,Leon Stout of Ionia; two daughters, Thelma Walkington of Lake Odessa and Edith Stout of Ionia; one brother, John Moore of Greenville; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Stretch of Greenville and Mrs.Leora Stutes of Lansing; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one daughter, Vivian Walkington, preceded her in death in 1971 and one grandchild also preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the LeValley United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Balcom Cemetery. The family will be at the Roetman Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Memorials have been established for the LeValley United Methodist Church or the Ionia County Unit of the American cancer Society, in the care of the funeral home.
