January 20, 2024 STOUT Gladys Katherine Stout, 92, passed away on January 11, 2024, at Medilodge of Grand Rapids. Gladys graduated from Union High School in Grand Rapids in 1950. She worked as a stenographer before marrying Clyde Stout, of Ionia, on September 17, 1955. When they moved to Ionia to live in Clyde's Grandparent's house, Gladys threw herself into collecting and refinishing antiques to furnish the beautiful old home. When she and Clyde later built a more manageable retirement home, she again used her flair for decorating to make it welcoming and cozy. She was a member of First Methodist Church in Ionia, where she was an active member of United Methodist Women, and was a guiding force in the church quilting group. Each of her children and grandchildren sleeps under a quilt she made for them. She was proud of her Swedish heritage, and her family continues to celebrate Christmas with candlelight and a menu of Scandinavian favorites.
