Ransom Stowell, 63, of 7607 Canfield, Orleans, died Thursday morning at his
residence.  He was born March 27, 1919, in Easton Township, the son of Alanson
and Emma Watson Stowell.  He was married March 18, 1939, in Grand Rapids to
Doris Babcock, who preceded him in death Sept. 14, 1973.  He married Emma
Blumberg, Dec. 25, 1975.

He was the former owner and operator of R & D PX Store at Long Lake, was
employed by Pete’s Restaurant for 5 years, and was formerly employed by Ionia
Hotel for 25 years.  He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Navy and
was a member of the VFW Post of Sheridan, and a former member of Saranac
American Legion.

Surviving is his wife Emma; two sons, Rance of Belding and Dennis of Orleans. 
One son, Brian Scott, preceded him in death, July 18, 1981; three daughters,
Sandra Emmons and Sue Ann Bussell both of Ionia and Carol Keller of Deerfield,
Mich.; three step-sons; Gary Nelson of Kellogg, Idaho, Larry Nelson of Ionia,
and Daniel Nelson of Lowell; one brother Samuel Stowell of Palo; and three
sisters, Gladys Lindsey of Illinois, Lillian LaFave of Detroit and Emma Robbins
of Long Lake, and 17 grandchildren.  

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m., at Meyers-Roetman Funeral
Home, with the Rev. Kenneth Harger officiating.  Burial will be at Easton
Cemetery.  The family will be at the funeral home from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9
p.m. Friday.  A memorial has been established in the care of the funeral home.
