January 19, 1956 VERDAN STOWELL DIED SATURDAY Verdan L.Stowell 38, of route 1, Woodland was fatally injured in a car-truck accident Saturday evening about 6:15 p.m. at the Intersection of M-45 and M-66 at Woodbury Corners. Mr.Stowell was pronounced dead on arrival at Pennock Hospital. He was driving alone in his pick-up truck on M-66 headed South and collied with a car driven by Theodore Taylor, 26 of Lansing who was driving east. Billy Toan 13, of Lansing and Harold Marshall, 28 of Holt were passengers in the Taylor car and all were treated for minor injuries at St.Lawrence Hospital, Lansing. State Police of the Ionia Post investigated and said Stowell apparently disregarded a stop sign. He was born on the farm where he lived and was a lifelong resident of Barry County, Woodland area. Surviving are his wife,, the former Jean Lambert, four daughters Mary Jo and Margaret Jean (twins) Linda Raye and Ann Verdeen; his mother Mrs. Dorr (Gertrude) Stowell of Woodland; two sisters Mrs.Doreen Hartman and Mrs Grace Noble, both of Vicksburg and one brother, Dr.I.T. Stowell of San Antonio, Texas. Funeral services were held Tuesday a 2 at the Pickens Funeral Chapel with burial in Lakeside Cemetery.
