Stowell, 57, died Thursday, January 1, at the Ionia County Memorial Hospital. He had been troubled with a heart condition since September 13. Born September 28, 1901, he was the son of William and Minnie Stowell. He was a graduated of Ionia High School in 1919, where he was a star athlete in all sports. He attended Ferris Institute and the Naval Academy at Annapolis for a short time. He was married to Pearl Hammond of Flint, April 23, 1928 at Bowling Green, Ohio. They made their home at Flint, Lansing, Brighton, Welch, West Virginia, and from 1948 until 1953 lived at Brooksville, Florida where Mr. Stowell operated his own auto agency. In 1953 they returned to Michigan and have lived at Lyons the past two years. Mr. Stowell had been a salesman all his life. Mr. Stowell was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of F&AM No. 112, McDowell Lodge at Welch, West Virginia, and a member of the Shrine Temple at Charleston, West Virginia. Surviving are his wife, Pearl; a daughter, Mrs. James Hopkins Jr. of Lyons; a son, John Stowell of Long Lake; four grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Louise Black of Ionia. Funeral service was held Saturday, January 3 at the Boynton’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Howard E. Bull officiating. Interment was in Easton Cemetery.
