April 20, 2016 NORMA JUNE SIDNAM CARTER STOWELL 1926-2016 Norma June Sidnam Carter Stowell, of Lake Odessa, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, April 15, 2016. She was 90. Mrs. Stowell was born April 12, 1926 in Mulliken, Michigan, to Alan and Helen (Malosh) Sidnam. The family resided in Grand Rapids for many years where her father was a police officer. In the early 1940s they moved to a farm northwest of lake Odessa. She graduated from lake Odessa High School in 1944. On June 23, 1944 she married Robert Thomas (Bob) Carter. They lived on and worked a farm northeast of Lake Odessa where they raised five children. Mr. Carter preceded her in death on Sept 3, 1970 after 26 years of marriage. On Aug. 31, 1973 she married Perry Hollis Stowell of Woodland. They were married 40 years and he preceded her in death on Sept. 2, 2013. Mrs. Stowell was also preceded in death by her parents, one infant sibling and one step-grandson, Greg Stowell. Mrs. (Carter) Stowell worked alongside her husband, Bob carter, to make a success f their farm back in the '40s, '50s and '60s. She milked cows, raked hay, kept a large garden and took care of the house and their five children. In her "spare time" she baked and decorated wedding cakes. Mrs. Stowell spent many years leading 4-H groups, specializing in gardening, sewing and other home crafts and was always on hand to chaperone school day trips and outings and to bake cup cakes for birthday parties. She and husband, Bob Carter, taught Sunday School at Central United Methodist Church in lake Odessa for many years. Upon her marriage to Perry Stowell she took on the bookkeeping duties associated with his farm equipment sales. She also designed and was contractor for their new house near Woodland, Michigan where they resided until his death and her move to Green Acres retirement living between lake Odessa and Ionia. Mrs. Stowell is survived by three daughters, Dianne(Wayne) Graner of Windsor, California, Bonnie Witt of Evart, Peggy Wilkins of Englewood, Florida; two sons, Thomas (Sharon) Carter of Elk River, Minnesota, and Timothy (Judith) Carter of Lake Odessa; two sisters, Violet (Ammon) Miller of Lake Odessa and Allyn (Bob) Pingle of Grandville; a brother Charles (Carol) Sidnam of Chassell; grandchildren, Michael (John) Fry of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Andrea Fry of Grand Rapids, Jason (Trisha) Wilkins of Ft. Myers, Florida, Melisa Carter ofTraverse City, Jeston Carter of Grand Rapids,Jenny Lynn (Aaron) Eckstein of New Ulm Minnesota, Tristann Jamie Carter of Bloomington, Minnesota; great-grandchildren, Jack Fender, Margaret Fender, Elizabeth Barnum, Dianthia (D.J.) Barnum, Aiden Eckstein, Ethan Eckstein, and Cole Wilkins; step-daughter Julie (Lorin) Oversmith; step-son Rodger Stowell; step-grandchildren Felicia Cook, Darin Stowell and brian (Laura) Stowell; step-great-grandchildren Amber Cook and Marcus Cook; many nieces, nephew, cousins, great-great-grandchildren and multitudes of friends beyond count. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 from 5 PM until 8 PM at Koops Funeral Chapel in lake Odessa. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at 11 AM at the Koops Funeral Chapel. Interment will take place at Lakeside Cemetery, lake Odessa, Michigan. The family wishes to thank the staff at Green Acres retirement Living of Ionia for the Excellent care they provided Norma.
