D. Strachan died on the morning of the 4th. Her husband, watching by her bedside, asked her if she heard the bells, some of which were rung soon after midnight, and she answered, “Yes, this is the fourth, and I shall died today.” She had long been suffering the slow but irrepressible ravages of consumption, and though often alluding to the fact that her mother died of the same disease when quite young, was always hopeful and energetic, insisting on being taken to see relatives and friends, some of them several miles in the country, until a short time before her death. She was the only daughter of H. V. Staley, one of the oldest residents of Muir. Beautiful from infancy and frail as she was beautiful, she drew interest to herself from all who knew her. Quite early in life she manifested a love for the fine arts and some of her oil paintings show decided talent. Fond of music, she gave early promise in that direction, but was too frail physically to push her studies far enough to fully develop her fine, natural talents in either direction. The death of her two beautiful boys, Allie and Donnie, the former on the 6th of last December, and the latter only a few weeks before her own death, overwhelmed both parents with grief in which ordeal she manifested an uncomplaining spirit full of sweet resignation to the divine will. A little more than a year ago she, with her husband, united with the Disciple church where her funeral was attended last Sunday, the house being crowded, several going away for want of room.
