Hasting's Reminder - Saturday August 21, 2021

Karen Marie Strader

LAKE ODESSA, MI- Karen Marie Strader, age 86, of Lake Odessa, passed away on 
Monday, Aug. 16, 2021 at her home. Karen was born Dec. 5, 1934 to James and 
Estelle (Engle) LeRoy.

She graduated from Ionia High School in 1952. After getting married, she worked 
as a cosmetologist while the children were young and then working for 31 years 
at OI in Charlotte. Karen owned Don's Sport Shop in Woodbury, which later became 
DT restaurant with her husband Don Thompson.

She was well known for having a meticulous lawn and beautiful flowers, one of 
the best in the neighborhood.

Karen enjoyed supporting her grandchildren in their sporting events. Her 
traveling bucket list was able to be fulfilled, which included Hawaii and 
Alaska. Karen kept her physical fitness routine, which included two mile walks 
with her dog Joey or friend Lien Harmon until her health prevented.

She considered herself very blessed to have lived for 28 years int he Eagle 
Point neighborhood, who became close friends and extended family. Karen was 
kind, giving and selfless, with a soft heart but incredible strength. On her own 
she maintained her home and yard even while battling illness.

Karen will be dearly missed by daughter, Shanon (Brad) Bennett; grandchildren, 
Brennan and Vanessa Doak, Cash (Maranda) and Lana Thomson; great-grandson, 
Carter Doak; along with friends and Eagle Pointers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Estelle LeRoy; her husband, 
Don Thompson; son, Dan Thompson; sister, Shirley Larson, and companion, Jack 
Loucks.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Aug.21, 2021 at Koops Funeral Chapel 
at 11 a.m. Karen will be laid to rest in Lakeside Cemetery in Lake Odessa. In 
lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to Helen DeVos Children's Cancer 
Treatment Center.
