D. Strain While On Operating Table In Hospital John D. Strain was born in Springfield, Illinois, March 1, 1860. His parents having died while still a young boy, he went to live with an only uncle at Springfield, where he received his High school and college education. Some years after, he went on the road as a traveling salesman throughout the south and while in the state of Texas he met and later married Miss Lela Reynolds, of Sherman, September 30, 1891, she being the daughter of Mrs. Martin Howe. To this union one daughter was born, Mrs. Ernest Anderson, after which Mrs. Strain died, leaving Mr. Strain with his infant daughter to care for. In February, 1900, he, with his daughter and mother-in-law, Mrs. Howe, came to Michigan to live to join Mr. Howe who came here first, and has resided on the old Howe homestead, southeast of Belding, up until his death. He was ill but a short time. On December 3rd through counsel with Dr. Richard Smith, of Grand Rapids, he was taken to Blodgett hospital for an operation but on account of his weakened condition he passed to the great beyond during the operation, about 10:30 p.m. Besides his heart broken daughter, Mrs. Anderson, who has lost a most devoted father and one whose vacancy can never be filled, he leaves a devoted son-in-law and two grandchildren, Roy and Maxine Anderson, besides a host of old neighbors and friends. Mr. Strain was a man who was liked by all who knew him and was a man who was always on the square with everybody. He was a member of the East Otisco Farmers Club and Belding grange. Funeral services were held at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Anderson, 604 Broas street, Sunday, December 6, at 2 o’clock. Rev. Ellis officiating. Burial in River Ridge cemetery. File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/mi/ionia/obits/s/strain26608nob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.net/mifiles/ File size: 2.4 Kb
