Strand, 66, Ionia businessman nearly 40 years at 3 o'clock at First Presbyterian church. Family will be at the funeral home 7 to 9 o'clock Monday evening. Arrangements are being made by Myers funeral home and a memorial has been established for the building fund of the Presbyterian church. Ill for the past several months he died Saturday evening at Blodgett Memorial hospital in Grand Rapids. Although not a native of the area, during his 40 years of residing in Ionia he was active in the organizing and promoting groups which were in the best interest of the community. He was born December 20, 1902 in Melville, Mont. and was married to Margaret Courter, July 12, 1927. After coming to Ionia in 1929 as manager of a chain store he opened Strand Shoe Store in 1931 and has been in business on Ionia's Main street in the same location since that time. The past 38 years he has been a member of First Presbyterian church and served as an elder or trustee most of that time. He was also a member of Ionia Rotary club 36 years and a past president. He has served 12 years as a member of Ionia school district board of education and several terms as an alderman from the third ward on Ionia city council. As a business man he helped to reorganize Ionia Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the group which set up the first Community Chest. At the time of his death he was serving as director of the Ionia Free Fair association the Ionia chapter American Red Cross and Michigan Retail Merchants. He had also been active politically and had served as chairman of Ionia County Republican committee. During the past several years he had been president of Michigan Shoe Retailers group, member of Ionia district council of Boy Scouts and charter member of Caberfae and Boyce Mountain ski clubs and Ionia County Fishing and Hunting club. Surviving are his wife, Margaret; daughter, Mrs. Wilhelm Schwarzott of San Francisco, Calif.; mother, Mrs. Severine Strand of Big Timber, Mont.; sisters, Mrs. Ansof Hanson of Melville, Mont., Mrs. C.J. Lesman of Billings, Mont., Mrs. Laurel Lamp of San Diego, Calif. brothers, Adolph and Lloyd Strand of Laurel, Mont., and Sigurd Strand of Ionia.
