Straub were held at the home of his mother, 417 E. Lafayette St., Sunday afternoon at two o’clock. The services were conducted by Rev. W. H. Phelps of Three Rivers. Miss Pearl Freeman and Miss Kate Benedict sang “Some Time We’ll Understand,” and “Light After Darkness.” The house was filled to overflowing with friends of deceased, and many were unable to find even standing room. Walter Straub was born in Ionia in a house which stood on the lots on which now stands the post office building, on November 2, 1882, and died March 9, 1905, at age of 23 years, 4 months, and 4 days, having been a resident of Ionia all his life. He was a great favorite with every one. No one knew him but to love and respect him. He was of a happy, lovable disposition, always a smile and a pleasant word for every one. He had been in the employ of the Citizens Telephone Co. for about two years, and will be greatly missed by all his associates. A large procession of relatives and friends, headed by the band, followed him to his last resting place. The remains rested in a beautiful casket covered with flowers, among them being a large panel of roses from the Citizen’s Telephone Co., one from the telephone company of Belding, one from Portland, and one each from the Sorosis Garment Co. and Electric Co. Also a large harp from his boy associates, besides many other beautiful flowers reom relatives and friends, to show the esteem im which he was held. He leaves besides an invalid mother, a father and two brothers to mourn his death. The pall bearers were Will Schipper, Ray Hogarth, Herbert Martin, Lee Preston, Philip Endres and Louis Copeland.
