Her mother died leaving her an orphan at the age of ten. At the age of 19 she was united in marriage to John Strickland, but the next years he answered the call of his country and soon gave his life as did thousands of other brave men on the field of battle. She was again married in 1866 to Chas. Hastings. To this union five children were born who still survive her. She was a kind and loving mother and an earnest and devoted christian. Since her conversion eight years ago her chief aim was to do her Master's will. She fell asleep in Jesus and in the morn she will awake in His likeness and be satisfied. Funeral New Years day at the United Brethren Church, Rev. J.A. Davis preaching the sermon. The body was placed in the Vault at Lakeside.
