Mr. Chauncy Strickland, uncle of Hon. R. Strickland and father-in-law of Mr. John Fry of this village, died of general debility at the residence of the latter on Sunday last, in the 86th year of his age. The deceased was born in Greenfield, Mass., where he continued to reside until the year 1812, when he took up his residence at Dansville, Steuben county, N. Y. He was married to Miss Ann Baker, at Dansville, in the year 1820. He removed with his family to DeWitt, this county, in the year 1855, and continued to reside in this and Ionia county until the day of his death. He was the father of nine children – four sons and five daughters – four of whom are still living – Mrs. Fry of this village being one of the three surviving daughters. He came to visit his relatives in this village in Oct. last, and from that time until he passed away he was very feeble. He was in the war of 1812, and fought under General Scott at the battle of Fort George.
