Aug. 12, 1999 Raymond E. Strickling, 67, of Ionia, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 10, at his home after a lengthy battle with cancer. Raymond Eugine Strickling was born Jan. 30,, 1932 in Bellmore, N.Y., the son of Claude and Susan (Seman) Strickling Sr. He attended Woodard Lake School and served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during the Korean Conflict. Ray was married to Betty Johnson on May 29, 1952 in Ionia. He worked for Specialty Block in Ionia for 10 years and then at Ionia County Memorial Hospital for six years, retiring in 1979. Ray was a member of the Dildine Christian Reformed Church and attended Shiloh Community Church. Mr. Strickling is survived by his wife, Betty; three sons, David “Deano” (Bridget) Strickling of Ionia, Richard “Dick” (Bonnie) Strickling of Greenville and Steven Strickling of Ionia; three daughters, Linda (Lawson) Craven of Saranac, Diane (Jim) Piscelli of Ionia and Brenda (Mike ) Miller of Ionia; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; three brothers, Claude (Marilyn) Strickling Jr. of Orleans, Charles “Fritz” (Joan) Strickling of Ionia and John (Thelma) Strickling of Ionia; one sister-in-law, Mary Lou Strickling of Grand Ledge; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his step-father and mother, J.R. and Susan Selleck, and one brother, Theodore Strickling. Memorial services for Raymond E. Strickling will be held Saturday, Aug. 14, at 3 p.m. from the Shiloh Community Church with Pastor Kenneth Harger officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ionia County Memorial Hospital Home Care, the Ionia County Commission on Aging or the Shiloh Community Church. Envelopes will be available at the church and are available at Cook Funeral Home, Rich Street Chapel, Ionia who is in charge of the arrangements.
