E. Strickling received word that his brother, T. S. Strickling, of Muir had died a victim of influenza. The subject of this sketch was born in Bloomer township, Montcalm Co., June 15, 1879, and died at his home in Muir, on Monday, December 30, 1918, aged 39 years, 6 months and 15 days. He moved to that place about April 1st and had purchased a home and blacksmith shop of Dayton Douglas and was widely known all over Ionia Co. as a fine workman and made a friend with those in whom he met. On September 25, 1901, he was united in marriage to Miss Clarabel Burlingham of Woods Corners and to them were born five boys. All are living but Earl, who preceded in death Aug. 5, 1911. He leaves to morn their loss his wife, four sons, Claude, Evert, Alger, and Rolln, father, mother and brother, G. E. Strickling of Hubbardston and a sister, Mrs. E. L. Moore of Matherton besides a large circle of friends. He was a member of the M. E. church of Hubbardston and was respected by all who knew him. Burial took placed in West Side cemetery at Hubbardston at 10 o’clock, December 31, in the family lot. There could be no funeral services, only a prayer on the out side of the house as the family were under quarantine and could not accompany him to his last resting place.
