He was one of a family of thirteen children, three of whom are still living-a brother and sister in the State of New York, and one brother in this state. He was brought up under the Quaker or Friends discipline, his parents being firm believers in that faith. When he was a small boy his parents removed to Oakfield, Genesee Co. N.Y.. At the age of 34 year he was married to Juliaette DuBois, of Victor, Ontario Co., N.Y. Before their removal to this state three children were born to them, Clara E. Stringham, George A. Stringham and Sarah C. Stringham, the former two residing at their present home, the latter, now Mrs.W.J. Ramsey, residing in Sebewa, Ionia Co..Upon his removal with his family to Michigan, in November, 1866, he purchased a farm one and one half miles south of Ionia, where he lived five years. After disposing of this farm he purchased another, one and one half mile north, west of Portland, where he was a resident at the time of his death. He died at the age of 65 years, having lived an unbroken family life of 31 years.Fourteen years ago a distant relative's child was brought to his home where he has since been a member of the family.
