The child was wearing a play harness, to which a rope was fastened. In some manner he fell into the cistern, and had the rope been a few feet shorter would have been held above the water level by it. Drs. Huyck, of Sunfield, and Botting, of Portland, were summoned, as were members of Portland fire department inhalator crew, but all efforts to revive the little boy failed. The firemen who made the run were Charles Munger, Dee Meitler, George Rottman and Malcolm Robertson. Funeral services will be held at the Strong home on Thursday afternoon at 2:00. Rev. Benjamin I. Davies will officiate, and burial will be in Portland cemetery. Dennis is survived by two brothers, Ernest and Richard. The child’s mother is the former Agnes Mattson, a former teacher in Portland schools. Mr. Strong’s mother, Mrs. Katherine Strong, and his brother Earl, live in this village.
