Heat Causes Death of Lake Odessa Boy
Lake Odessa, Michigan, July 14 – 

What is believed to be the first fatality from the heat in this section 
occurred when Elvin Strong, nine-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Strong, 
farmers living southwest of town, collapsed today on the barn floor, at the 
farm belonging to his grandfather, M.D. Fry. The lad had been helping mow away 
hay by tripping the hay sling, and after the last load had been taken care of 
at night, his grandfather left him alone for a few minutes. Returning he found 
him in a heap on the floor, unconscious and moaning faintly, and death came 
before a doctor could be summoned.
