July 26, 1934 PIONEER OF ALGODON DIES IN E. LANSING Many Older Residents Recall the Prominence of Willis Strother, Prior to 1900. An Algodon postmaster for several years, as well as a boyhood companion of many who attended the Algodon Anway school northwest of the village of Lake Odessa, was Willis Strother, one of the most prominent men of that section. Later he left Odessa and went to Latty, Ohio where he was also a man interested in church and fraternal work. When health failed he came to his brother Walter in East Lansing. The funeral was held there and burial was at Lake Odessa. OBITUARY Willis Gleason Strother, son of George and Mariette Gleason Strother, was born in Van Wert, Ohio, February 3, 1863, and died in East Lansing, Mich., July 16, 1934, age 71 years, five months, 17 days. Funeral services were held from the Neller funeral home parlors in Lansing, Mich., Thursday July 19, and burial was at Lakeside cemetery at Lake Odessa, Mich. Rev. Perry of Lansing officiating. Three brothers, Clarence B of Galion, Ohio, Fred O of Beaver, Pa., and Walter J of East Lansing, survive him. In 1871 he moved with his parents to their farm on section five, Odessa township, where he lived the early part of is life and attended the Anway Algodon school and Saranac High School. He was postmaster at Algodon postoffice at the time it was discontinued in 1900, and active in township and local affairs, and always ready to lend a helping hand. In September, 1903 he moved to Latty, Ohio where he assisted in a general store till May 1931, when he was obliged to retire due to ill health. there, he was active in church work and held positions of trust in the village, and had a host of friends. The last few years he has lived in East Lansing, Mich. at the home of his brother Walter. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. and K of P. Orders at Latty, Ohio. Members of family who attended were Mr an Mr Clarence B. Strother of Galion, Ohio, Mrs.Faye Mouser of Marion, O., Dale G. Strother of Galion, O., Walter J. Strother, Mr and Mrs Rex Strother and Mr and Mrs Max Strother of East Lansing.
