Mrs. Strothers was a comparatively young woman, and one not only highly respected but dearly loved by all who knew her. Her kindly smile and sweet disposition won her friends wherever she went. Death came almost suddenly, she having pneumonia, at her home in East Lansing. She was a resident most of her life of this community. She and her husband only moving to Lansing a few years ago to put their twin sons in college there. Mrs. Strothers was a past worthy Matron of the local O.E.S. here and a past county president of that order. At the time of her death she was secretary of the Eastern Star at East Lansing. The husband and sons have the sympathy of many friends here. Subsequent Publication: Wednesday, March 31, 1926 Luta A. Rogers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse L. Rogers was born in Berlin Township, Ionia County, Michigan April 3rd, 1879, and departed this life March 18, 1926. Nearly all of her life she has lived in that vicinity. She attended school at Saranac being a member of the Class of 1896. She was a successful teacher in Ionia county for three years. Luta A. Rogers and Walter J. Strother were married October 12, 1899 and lived on the farm, the Strother homestead of more than fifty years, for twenty-one years, moving to their present home in East Lansing in the year 1921. Mr. and Mrs. Strothers were the parents of three sons, Wynn who died in infancy and Rex and Max who with their father are left to mourn their loss. Mrs. Strother was always interested the social life of her community, as well as in the welfare of her friends and never was too tired or too busy to lend a helping hand. She was a member of Lake Odessa Order of Eastern Star No. 315 for a number of years and served in numerous offices of the Chapter, being Worthy Matron during the year 1915, and President of the Ionia County Association Order of Eastern Star in the year 1918. After moving to East Lansing Mr. and Mrs. Strother and family became actively associated with the People’s Church of this place, both of them being members of the Friendly Bible Class and Mrs. Strother served this class as secretary for several terms. She was a member of the Womens’ Society of the People’s Church, of the Home Missionary Society, and also of the East Lansing Woman’s Club. Mr. and Mrs. Strother affiliated with Red Cedar Chapter No. 434 Order Eastern Star at East Lansing, in August 1923. Mrs. Strother being Secretary of that order at the time of her death. Besides the immediate family there are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Rogers of Clarksville, her sister, Mrs. Wesley Grieve and family of Ionia, and other relatives whose hearts are left desolate by the untimely passing of this loved one. “Luta” as she was affectionately called will be sadly missed by hosts of friends here and at her old home at Lake Odessa, but there is perhaps a comforting thought in Sir Thomas Moor’s beautiful poem: Let fate do her worst; There are relics of joy Bright dreams of the past Which she cannot destroy And which some in the night Of sorrow and car And bring back the features That joy used to wear; Long, long be our hearts With such memories filled Like the vase in which roses Once were distilled You may shatter that vase If you will But the scene of the roses Cling to it still. Card of Thanks: We wish to express our heartfelt thanks to our friends for the many acts of kindness and consideration extended to us in our great bereavement. We especially wish to thank the Lake Odessa Chapter O.E.S. for their thoughtful plans for our comfort at the end of our sad day. Walter J. Strother Rex Strother Max Strother Mr. and Mrs. J. L.
