Medical aid was hastily summoned, but after nearly two hours all hope of resuscitation was given up. Several years ago a son, Frank Hamler, who would have graduated in a short time from the University of Michigan dental department, died of appendicitis, and Mrs. Stryker never could become reconciled to his loss. She became so despondent that life held but small charm, and she was often hoping for death. She was constantly watched by Mr. Stryker, who has nearly worn himself out fearing that she would some time accomplish her purpose. Friday she appeared to be in her normal frame of mind and had been to the home of a neighbor to visit. About three o’clock Miss Cora Poole called at the Stryker home, and finding no one there waited at the house a while, then going to the back door she noticed the top of the cistern had been removed and on further examination found the body of Mrs. Stryker. Help was quickly secured, but owing to the small opening of the cistern it was nearly a half hour before the body was taken out. Elizabeth Jane Batty, daughter of Thomas and Hannah S. Batty, was born in New Jersey July 12, 1852, and was married to Napoleon Hamler in 1871. They came to Lyons shortly after their marriage, where they resided until the death of Mr. Hamler in 1888. To this union were born two children: Amy, who died in 1881, aged nine years, and Frank H., who passed away in 1908, aged 23 years. In 1893 she was united in marriage to Adelbert Stryker, who with two sisters are left to mourn their loss. Deceased was a member of the Woman’s Relief Corps, and an active worker for the society. The sympathy of the community goes out to the husband, who has had the constant care of her for the past seven years. Funeral services were held from the home Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Wm. Judd. The music was furnished by Mesdames A.E. Bradt and W.A. Grant. The pall bearers were L.C. and Geo. D. Faxon, E.B. and L.H. Hale, Daniel Curtis and Chas. Blower. The large attendance and the many floral offerings bore testimony of the esteem in which deceased was held. Interment was in the family lot of Lyons cemetery. The following from out of town attended the funeral : Mrs. Elmira Nitz and Mrs. Manning Wright of Mt. Freedom, N.J., Mrs. Margaret Sharp of Newton, N.J., Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Stryker, Mrs. Eliza Marks and Mrs. Mabel Bates of Vermontville; Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Gregg and two children of Sunfield; Mrs. Nellie Ingraham and two children of Portland; Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Powers and Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Reynolds and daughter of Jackson; Mr. and Mrs. Amon Stone of Perrinton.
