Born October 5, 1925 in Hastings,MI to Esta (Slater) & Lester Stuart. Hillis grew up in Clarksville, MI. Hillis graduated Clarksville High School where he met his future wife, Marjory Good. After High school, he went into the U.S. Navy during W.W.II. He was stationed at Gulfport, Mississippi where Marjorie took the train to & they were married on April 14, 1945. In Clarksville on the Farm, Hillis & Marjorie raised 4 sons H.Craig, Lee, Brian & Matthew. In 1957, Hillis & Marjorie accepted Jesus as their personal Savior. Hillis served as Sunday School Teacher, served on the church & school boards while dairy & crop farming. In 1969, the family moved to a farm near Portland,MI., where the family expanded to include four daughter-in-laws, twelve grandchildren & twenty great-grand children. Hillis & Marjory attended several different churches before settled at Living Gospel Church in Lake Odessa,MI to serve for over 30 years. After Marjory died in January of 2020, Hillis continued to live in the farmhouse alone, with help from family members. He was able to attend church up to January 11, 2026 On June 15, 2025, he moved into Stanford Adult Care Lodge in Sunfield, MI where he received loving care from the staff for the last 7 months of his life & time with his good friend Ken Pratt. Preceded in death by his wife, Marjory in January 2020 after almost 75 years of marriage. Also preceded in death by his father, Lester Stuart, mother Esta Kole, stepfather Andy Kole, brothers & wives Wayne & Eleanor Stuart, LD & Norma Stuart, Dick & Marian Stuart,Don & Leahbelle Stuart, brother-in-law Don Willison & son H.Craig Stuart. Survived by his sister Lois Willison, daughter-in-law Shirley Stuart & her sons Darin (Melissa), Daryl (Michelle) & Neil, son Lee (Ruth Ann) Stuart & their children Nathan(Jessica), Mike, David (Jamie, & Liz (Brett Holman), son Brian (Susan) & their sons, Tim (Allison) & Tom (Elizabeth), son Matthew Stuart & his children, Steven, Jason (Amanda) & Denise (Nick) Lake, so great-grandchildren & many nieces & nephews. Visitation & funeral services will be held Saturday, February 28, 2028 at Living Gospel Church, 1600 Rochester St., in Lake Odessa. Visitation He was able to attend church up to January 11, 2026 Visitation & funeral services will be held Saturday, February 28, 2028 at Living Gospel Church, 1600 Rochester St., in Lake Odessa. Visitation at 10:00 a.m. followed by funeral at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Steve Hadley officiating with luncheon to follow immediately at the church. Burial with Military honors will be at Balcom Cemetery, 2362 West Tuttle Road, Ionia at 2:30 following the luncheon. Memorial donations may be given to Living Gospel Church.
