When he was four years of age he came with his parents to Oakland county, Michigan. They lived there until he was 15 years old and the moved to Gratiot County. In 1853 he was married to Eunice Barker and unto this union were born three children, S. A. Sturgis of Grand Rapids, Mrs. Emaline Cranson of Holly and Mrs. Ada M. Reed of this place. Later the family moved to Ionia county where his wife died in 1886. The following year he was married to Mrs. Adelia Millard and to them were born two children, Mrs. Helen Newton of Lansing and Ney Sturgis of Grand Rapids. After the death of his wife in 1904 he made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Ada Reed, where he died April 25. He had been gradually failing in mind and body for a number of years and during the last few months required constant care. The funeral was held at the home Tuesday at 2 o’clock, Rev. Mr. Kinney of the Matherton U. B. church officiating. Mr. Sturgis united with this church many years ago. He was buried in the West Side cemetery. S. A. Sturgis and Ney Sturgis came to attend the funeral.
