George Summ, of West Washington street, was found dead in bed at his home Sunday morning by his son-in-law, Archie F. Boltz, having died suddenly during the night. Mr. Summ had been suffering from a serious malady for many months but nothing grave was noted in his condition Saturday, as he was downtown among his friends as usual. Last fall he built a little home on West Washington street, just back of that of his daughter’s on Main street, and followed the custom of inquiring about him when he was not seen about, Mr. Boltz went there Sunday morning about 9 o’clock. Mr. Summ’s position in bed was so lifelike that Mr. Boltz first thought was that the elder man was sleeping. Born in Lowell November 29, 1858, he came to Ionia when a lad of nine years, and had since lived in this community, and for a long time was employed as a guard at the reformatory. His wife died 25 years ago, and following her death his daughter, Mrs. Boltz, lived with him, and after her marriage Mr. Summ lived alone. During his early life he was affiliated with the Lutheran church. He also held membership in the Arbeiter society, the Moose lodge, and played an alto horn in the Ionia City band. The funeral services will be held from the home of Mrs. Boltz on Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 Eastern Standard time. Rev. Alfred Trennery will officiate. The burial will take place in Oak Hill cemetery. The body is at Stebbins funeral home on west Main street and may be viewed there until Wednesday morning. Mr. Summ is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Boltz and Miss Adelaide Summ, the latter of Chicago, and two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Werner and Miss Etta Summ, both of Chicago.
