Feb. 8, 2013 Edward Dale Sumner, 81, of Lowell formerly of Saranac passed away Feb. 5, 2013 in Ionia. He was born April 8, 1931 in Portland the son of Joseph and Neva (Wilson) Sumner. Ed married Wauneta Greer Dec. 29, 1957 in Mexico. She passed away Feb. 14, 2000. Ed was a Army veteran of the Korean war. He was stationed in Tokyo. He was a lifetime and very active member of Saranac, Ionia and Portland VFW Posts. He did funeral honors, parades and donated his time to many projects. Ed was also a lifetime member of Saranac American Legion, past Club master and leader and a past baseball coach. He was an avid bowler. Ed is survived by his children, Edward Sumner Jr. of Texas, Kathi (Doug) Greenhoe of Saranac, Linda Pitsch of Saranac and Pam ( Rick) Burns of Lowell; brothers, Bill (Kathleen) Sumner of Missouri and Mike (Mabel) Sumner of Missouri; sisters, Fran Boswell of Washington, Marge Foster of Alpena and Evelyn (Ford) Wright of Lansing; 19 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parent, wife, one son Larry, one grandson Joey and a life-long friend, Kenny Baker. A memorial service will be held Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, 1 p.m. at Lake Funeral Home of Ionia with Pastor John Prominksi officiating. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to his family.
