With his parents moved to Niagara Co. N.Y. when one year old, and in 1844 came to Michigan locating in Eaton county. In 1859 he was united in marriage to Harriet De Witt and to them were born three children, Milo and Mrs. J. S. Braden of Lake Odessa and Ernest of Detroit. In 1861 he enlisted in the 16th Mich infantry and was taken prisoner at the battle of Chickamauga. Four years ago Mr. Sutherland was baptized and joined the Minonite Baptist church and was an active member until his death which occurred July 7, 1906. The funeral was held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the home, conducted by Rev. J.C. Cook, the burial taking place in Lakeside cemetery. The deceased leaves a wife and the three above mentioned children to mourn their loss.
