The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Monday, May 5, 1969

Maurice Sutherland, 54, of 456 King, died at Fremont General hospital, Sunday 
evening, of an apparent heart attack.   He was born October 2, 1914, in Grand 
Ledge, the son of Clifton and Mary Starr Sutherland.  November 1, 1946 he was 
married to Ruth Becklund in Ionia.

He was employed by Michigan Bell Telephone in Ionia 22 years.  A member of 
Croton Hardy Conservation club, he was a past member of the Loyal Order of 
Moose and Ionia Hunting and Fishing club.  He entered the army October 26, 
1943 and served in New Guinea, Philippines, Luzon, Bismark and Acapulco.  He 
was recipient of two bronze star medals and received his discharge December 3, 
1945.

Besides his wife, Ruth, he leaves a son Michael of Haslett and one 
granddaughter; three brothers, Neil of Grand Rapids, Thomas of Hastings, 
Robert of Lansing; three sisters, Mrs. Edward Morhardt of Sunfield, Mrs. J. C. 
Dahms of Lake Odessa and Madeline Sutherland of Detroit.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Myers funeral home with Rev. 
Lester Bailey officiating.  Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Subsequent Publication:  Thursday, May 8, 1969

Rev. Lester Bailey of First United Methodist church officiated at funeral 
services Wednesday for Maurice Sutherland who died Sunday.  Interment was at 
Sunset Memorial Gardens.  

Bearers were Jack Mowatt, Forster Behnke, Dwight Killion, Richard Schafer, 
Howard Allen and Robert Lindhout.  Sixty employees and former employees of 
Michigan Bell Telephone company attended in a group.
