Mary Lou was born in West Branch, on November 1, 1951 to Henry and Sarah (Troyer) Yoder. She graduated from Clinton Christian School in Goshen, IN in 1970. Mary Lou was married to Kenneth Sutter on April 6, 1974. They had been long-time residents of the Clarksville and Lake Odessa area. Mary Lou had been actively involved in every community she had lived in. She baked her famous cinnamon rolls and served in community events. But first of all, she served Christ, then her church, her family and her friends. She had been instrumental in the formation and operation of the Lakewood Christian School. Mary Lou had worked as an LPN for 20 years with the doctors in Lake Odessa. As her children grew older, she returned to complete nursing training. She was proud to have graduated Magna Cum Laude as a Registered Nurse from Kellogg Community college in 2003. She had been employed since then as a nurse in the Emergency Room at Spectrum Health/Blodgett Hospital in Grand Rapids. Her ideal for life was caring for others. Her life showed her love for the Lord, and her hands and feet did His service. “What does the Lord require of me? To act justly, to love mercy, and walk humbly with my God.” Mary Lou is survived by her husband, Kan; son and daughter-in-law and grandson, Nathan and Rebecca Sutter and Brian, daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and Luke Drury; son, Andrew Sutter; parents; Henry and Sarah Yoder of New Paris, IN; sister, Kathleen and Paul Newcomer, of North Judson, IN; brother, Carl and Marcie Yoder of El Paso, TX; sister Sarie Jane and Kenneth Miller of New Paris, IN; mother-in-law, Joan Sutter; and the many loving members of the extended Yoder and Sutter families. She was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Ivis Sutter; and her cousin, Kathryn Kauffman. Visitation will be held at the Koops Funeral Chapel in Lake Odessa from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17, and again from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18. A service of celebration will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 19, 2005 at the Calvary Grace Brethren Church with her pastor, Harly Koehn of the Living Gospel Church officiating. Burial will be in Bowne Mennonite Cemetery. In keeping with Mary Lou’s wishes, it is suggested that as a more lasting memorial, contributions may be made to the mission outreach of the Living Gospel Church, or to the family for her son Andrew’s further education.
