Ionia Sentinel-Standard
Helen M. Swainston, 73, of 932 Bridge Street, Lyons, died Sunday at Ionia County 
Memorial Hospital.  Born March 18, 1914 in North Plains Township, she was the 
daughter of Charles and Edith Knight Wilder.  She attended Hayes School and was 
graduated from Muir High School with the Class of 1933.  She was a licensed 
beauty operator and operated the Rita J Shop in Ionia.  She retired from the 
Chrysler Trim Plant, Lyons in 1977.  She was a member of UAW Local 1434 and of 
the Ladies Auxiliary of the Lyons-Muir VFW Post.  Her husband, Carl Swainston, 
to whom she was married in February 1939, preceded her in death in April 1981.  
Surviving are two grandchildren, Brian and (unreadable) Swainston, both of 
Ionia.  Her son, Gary Swainston, preceded her in death in 1971.

Funeral services will be 2 pm Wednesday from Hull Memorial Chapel, Muir, with 
the Rev. Paul Carmichael of Lyons Baptist Church officiating.  Burial will be in 
Muir Cemetery.

A memorial for the Ionia County Unit, American Cancer Society has been 
established in care of the funeral home.
