Ionia Sentinel-Standard - Jan. 1999

Myrtle M. (Thorp) Swanson, 86, of Grand Rapids, formerly of Ionia, passed away 
Jan. 26, 1999 at Heartland Health Care – Greenview in Grand Rapids. 

She was born the daughter of Azor and Jessie (Hughes) Curtiss on April 26, 1912.

She was formerly employed at both Gittlemans and Jones Jewelry in Ionia.

Survivors are one daughter, Sandra (Dwight) Whipple of Grand Rapids; 
grandchildren Patricia (Edward) Reynolds of Grand Rapids, and David (Amy) 
Whipple of Olympia, Wash.; and great-grandchildren Katy, Patrick, Betsy, Trisha 
Reynolds, all of Grand Rapids.

Mrs. Swanson was preceded in death by two husbands, Elton B. Thorp and Arthur 
R. Swanson.

Funeral and Committal services will be 2 p.m., Saturday, at the Cook Funeral 
Home in Ionia, with Rev. Lawrence Hodge from First United Methodist Church 
officiating.

Interment will be in spring at Easton Cemetery.

Visitation hours are 7 to 8:30 p.m., Friday, at the Rich Street Chapel of Cook 
Funeral Home in Ionia. Memorial contributions may be made to one’s choice in 
care of Cook Funeral Home.
