                             ARTHUR SWANSON

IONIA-Arthur R.Swanson, 85, of Grand Rapids, formerly of Ionia, died on Thursday  
at Butterworth Hospital, Grand Rapids.

He was born, the son of Swan and Augusta Anderson Swanson, on July 7, 1906, in 
Ludington.

He was retired from the State of Michigan, Corrections Department in 1966. He 
married Myrtle M.Thorp on October 24, 1970, in Grand Rapids. He served during 
World War II in the U.S. Navy.

He is survived by his wife; two sons; Arthur Swanson Jr. of Texas and Conrad 
L.Swanson of Grand Rapids; his daughter Carol Gregory of Cadillac; a 
stepdaughter, Sandra Whipple of Grand Rapids; 12 grandchildren 14 great-
grandchildren; and is sister Florence Bradshaw of Ludington.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Irma in 1970.

Funeral and committal services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Cook funeral Home, 
Ionia, with the Rev. David Flagel officiating.

Burial will be in the Balcom Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Arthur D.Gregory, Conrad Swanson Jr., David Whipple, Ronald 
Swanson, Stewart Swanson, and Daniel DeMartin.

The family will be at the funeral home on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m.

A memorial has been established for the Ionia Area Hospice, in care of the 
funeral home.
