Born April 25, 1940, in Manistee, MI, son of Harold & Lucille (Ferguson)Swanson. Jack graduated from Manistee High School with the Class of 1958 & went to complete a bachelor's degree at Western Michigan University, majoring in industrial education with a woodworking minor. Jack served as a teacher with the Belding Area Schools for 32 years & taught driver's education for 26 years. He married Leona "Lee" Graczyk on September 2, 1961 at St.Joseph Catholic Church in Manistee & they shared 64 years of marriage. Jack was active in many volunteer capacities for his church & community. He served as Little League Coach, Cub Scout Master, Food pantry volunteer & member of Friends of the Library. Jack volunteered his talents at the church maintaining & improving projects, such as installing new handrails, building special display cabinets, adding custom wood trim to the church & refinishing the wooden entrace church doors. He volunteered his time heading up the Belding High School Football Chain gang, operating the down box for close to 50 years before being inducted into the BeldinG High School Athletic Hall of Fame. He belonged to the Belding Good Fellow Club & active member of the FEA & NEA. His hobbies were woodworking, stained glass, stamp collecting & sporting events, both professional & local, especially when the grandkids & great-grandkids competed. He & Lee loved to travel, visiting Italy, Sweden,England, Canada & many U.S States. Jack had a deep love for & devotion to, God.He prayed the Rosary dailyt & never missed Mass, home or while traveling. Survived by his wife, Lee, his children,Jeff (Kay) Swanson of Belding, Beth Bush of Novi, & John Swanson of Rockford; grandchildren Amy Jo (Ben) Scarino, Justin (Lindsay) Swanson, Ashley (Eric) Wolfe, Brian Bush, Aden Swanson & Cole Swanson; great-grandchildren Jackson, Maisie, Levi, Miles & Westyn; his twin sister, Jean Anderson of Freesoil, brother-in-law Chet Kaczmarek of Manistee, three sisters- in-law & one brother-in-law along many nieces & nephews & cousins. Preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, his sister Mary Ann Kaczmarek & son-in-law, Russ Bush. Visitation on Thursday, December 4, 2025, from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 p.m. at Verdun Family Funeral Home,303 S.Bridge St., Belding, MI 48809. Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father Richard Bartoszek at 11 a.m on Friday, December 5,2025 at St.Joseph Catholic Church, 403 S.Bridge St, Belding, MI. Those wishing are welcome to consider a memorial donation in Jack's name to Belding Area Schools Industrial Arts or Athletic Programs, the St.Jospeh Food Pantry or the IM Kids Third Meal Program.
