The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Wednesday, October 13, 1937

Funeral services will be attended Thursday at the farm home of Mrs. Laura Nye 
Swarthout, 74, who died Sunday.  Surviving are one son, Earl of Markhalf, 
Washington, one daughter, Mrs. Gretel Waters of Lake Odessa, two brothers, 
Hamilton Nye of Blanchard and William Nye of Lake Odessa, one sister, Mrs. 
Elizabeth Smith, of Fowler, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.  
Mr. and Mrs. Swarthout were married in January 1890, and the husband died in 
July, 1933.
