Gallowy lost a small building which stood between the jewelry store and Wortman's grocery. It was used for a justice's office. - Charles Swarthout of this place at the fire fell down on his face and on examination it was found that he was dead. He had been troubled with his lungs, and the death was doubtless due to over exertion in the cold air. The funeral was held on Sunday at half past ten, from the Baptist church, of which he was a member. Charles Swarthout was born in Yates county N.Y., February 1820, came to Palo in 1865, with his family, a wife and four children and has resided here till his death, which occurred on Thursday night, December 27th. A son and daughter are all the remain of the family. The funeral services were held in the Baptist church last Sunday morning, Sermon by Rev. A.
