Former Resident Passed Away Oct. 2

Donald J. Sweet, 44, formerly of Ionia and recently of Lansing was found dead 
October 2 in a motel room east of Ionia. Officers who investigated stated the 
time of death was placed as some time on Saturday. Coroner Dale Kauffman who 
investigated said the cause of death was self inflicted gunshot wounds.

A native of Odessa township he was the son of Jesse and Addie Sweet. He was A 
Sergeant in World War II with the Ionia Company of the National Guard and served 
in the Asiatic theater.

Surviving are a son Terry stationed at Philadelphia with the U.S. Navy; two 
sisters, Mrs. Bertha Harris and Barbara Sweet of Lansing.

Funeral services were held on Thursday at the Stone-Kauffman Funeral Home with 
burial in the Tuttle cemetery. The Rev. Ra. Fassett, of the E.U.B. Church of 
Ionia officiated.
